When we retire our breeding females we sometimes place them in loving homes where they can live a life of leisure and be part of families not as dog oriented as ours!
I have been questioned about this practice. How can we pass dogs that we love, on to other families? It is because we love them that we can do this. We intend to grow here. That requires younger dogs to train, run hunt tests with, and add to our breeding program.
While our retired dogs would be well cared for, their attention time would be greatly reduced.
How fair is that for a sweet girl who has given us the prime of her life, great litters of puppies, and helped our kennel grow? These girls have worked hard for us and deserve to live with families who want a loving companion and pet.
So, as sad as I always am to see one leave, I know they are happy and thriving in a new home.
